It's All About Presentation

One rule of thumb that I firmly believe in is: It's all about presentation. This can be applied to absolutely anything, not just for a business, but your report in school, invitations, how you display photographs, etc. In this case, it's the New Patient Welcome Packet that was created for Dr. Ned Windmiller and Dr. Carissa Knutson. When you remove the brochure from the chocolate colored envelope the cover feels like suede, and very luxurious to the touch. The content is very informative, from services offered, about the dentists, to testimonials and payment plans. In the back of the brochure are forms that people usually fill out upon arrival. These are mailed to the patient to fill out at their leisure, to be brought in at their first visit. There is also an impressive DVD showcasing Before & After Smiles of Drs. Windmiller & Knutson's patients.

Their office is in Stillwater, Minnesota and has recently been remodeled, offering a gorgeous setting that is nearly spa-like. You forget you are there to see the dentist when you are offered a bottled water upon arrival and are given a hand massage once seated in the dental chair. It's a very comfortable place to go for the dentist, which is hard to find. The words comfortable and dentist aren't usually used in the same sentence! Some might think I am a bit biased considering Ned Windmiller is indeed my father, but I am treated like everyone else there, and the customer service is phenomenal. If you are interested in learning more, please click here and I will send you a new patient packet, I am sure you will not only be impressed by the packet itself, but the services that are offered inside.

Beautiful Image "La Bella Figura"

After running around town gathering beautiful images that are "must haves" for summer, this beautiful image was created for Artful Living magazine, photograph taken by Jenn Cress. After making many great connections with local boutiques, I also learned about an amazing couple that sells vintage sunglasses online. These people are fantastic. Check out their website: glasseswebb.com The sunglasses are my favorite item on this page. Ciao bella!

Rhonda Jackson: Make Up Artist | Jenn Cress: Photographer

I had the opportunity to assist at a photo shoot this summer with two extremely talented women. Rhonda Jackson and Jenn Cress. These are the women behind the scenes of what made this photo shoot a huge success!! Although Lalita (the model) is a gorgeous woman all on her own, Jenn and Rhonda were able to create the exact style we were looking for through make up and photography. This is the outcome:

I want to promote these ladies as much as I possibly can because they are just THAT GOOD! I highly recommend them. Here is their contact information, they are amazing people to work with:

James de Givenchy

James de Givenchy is a jewelry designer and creative director for Sotheby's diamonds. Artful Living magazine wrote an article on him in their Spring issue this year. (This is the magazine I do all of the design/layout work for - my design work is revealed above). I enjoyed his jewelry so much, and his appreciation for rarity I wanted to post it on my blog to share with others. The combination of diamonds and rubber - so daring, yet so sophisticated. 'Tis the Season for Weddings!

The invitations are what set the theme for your wedding. There are infinite possibilities on how you can create them, from e-vites to extravagant layers of papers, die cutting and detailing. Some of the most important people in my life are getting married this summer, and I have had the honor of helping with their wedding invites. Wedding invites are quite personal, they reveal a sense of style for the bride and groom. I have included a few examples of the simple text used for some invitations I am working on, and it just goes to show it's the paper and presentation that makes such a difference! Although I would like to think the layout of the text is crucial as well, these images don't do the invites justice without the beautiful paper that surrounds the text. Click on the images for larger view.
Windmiller Design Group loves to help with wedding invitations, all the way down to the perfect paper color, appropriate envelopes, and minute detailing. Let us help you create the most appropriate style for your big day!

Artful Living Magazine | Summer 2009 Issue

The release of the Summer issue of Artful Living is just around the corner, however, since you're visiting this blog, you are able to get a SNEAK PEEK! The main themes of this issue are Italy and Vintage style - both fascinating to read about and gorgeous to look at. The photo shoot on Lake Minnetonka was an incredible experience for all. Mahogany Bay was kind enough to let us use some of their gorgeous vintage boats, where only a few exist in the world. Jenn Cress did an absolutely fabulous job with the photography. Thank you to both Mahogany Bay and to Jenn Cress, we really appreciate it.

Lake Pepin Art & Design Center

The Lake Pepin Art & Design Center has just launched a new website! Please take a look. If you have not taken the drive to Pepin, Wisconsin, I highly recommend the trip. The drive itself is breathtaking, with incredible views of the lake and enormous trees guide you along the way. The town of Pepin sits right on the lake, and it's a charming artists community, with lots of great shops and historical landmarks. It's a great little get away. And a MUST SEE is the Lake Pepin Art & Design Center, they are always featuring incredible artists, and they have many fun events going on throughout the week and the weekend. Check it out! Savvy Safari >> Spring Artful Living Magazine

African Safari?
This image is not exactly what I would imagine an African Safari to be, would you? This is exactly why the article in the Spring issue of Artful Living is a MUST READ. Written by Rudy Maxa, the Savvy Traveler on MPR, and the host of Rudy Maxa's World on PBS, and contributing editor to National Geographic Traveler and also a contributing writer for Artful Living Magazine - a magazine which I create the layout and design. Rudy makes you feel like you are right there with him on the Land Cruiser trying to escape from a lion that is blocking their path, and enjoying a gourmet meal under the stars. Unbelievable photos were taken by Rudy during this adventure and are featured in the article. The Spring issue will be released at the end of April. MARKETING TIP
Insights to Marketing in a Down Economy:
Professor John Quelch, of Harvard Business School shares ways of marketing your way through a recession:

In a recession, consumers become value oriented, distributors are concerned about cash, and employees worry about their jobs. But a downturn is no time to stop spending on marketing. The key, says professor John Quelch, is to understand how the needs of your customers and partners change, and adapt your strategies to the new reality. Key concepts include: • Brands that increase advertising during a downturn can improve market share and return on investment. • Early-buy allowances, extended financing, and generous return policies motivate distributors to stock your full product line. • In tough times, price cuts attract more consumer support than promotions. • CEOs must spend more time with customers and employees.

STAY COMMITTED TO RESEARCH - It's now more important than ever before to understand what the customer is thinking and doing. It is vital to keep a pulse on what is important to them and make sure you are delivering. This is why we feel it is absolutely vital that you closely monitor your web analytics. Usually we can look at website user behavior and see exactly what is important to the visitor. For example, on a recent project we were able to see that a client's customer base was showing considerable pause in their buying behavior. They were still seeing the same number of pages, but they were spending a much longer time viewing the page. In essence, it was like they were walking their way to the check out counter, but were taking a much longer time in the process. Changes in merchandising were able to help address this issue.

MAINTAIN MARKETING SPENDING - Professor Quelch says "This is not the time to cut advertising. It is well documented that brands that increase advertising during a recession, when competitors are cutting back, can improve market share and return on investment at lower cost than during good economic times."

"Successful companies do not abandon their marketing strategies in a recession; they adapt them" says Quelch.

Organic Climbing USA

TESTIMONIAL for Windmiller Design Group
From the creation of our start up logo 5 years ago and the ensuing brand identity needs Windmiller Design Group has surpassed all of our expectations for delivery, consistency and a true understanding of our needs. As a new company in a very competitive field, a striking logo was key to being noticed. 5 years latter, and tens of thousands of comments on our great logo latter I can say without a doubt it is dynamite!

The ease at which my scattered ideas simply emailed to Mollie reliably become final products amazes me time after time. From Logo creation, branding, graphic design all the way to website needs Windmiller design group has without a doubt become our one stop!

Windmiller Design GROUP?

Those that know the compilation of Windmiller Design Group know that the group actually consists of one person...Mollie Windmiller.  However, I chose to add the word group to the business name not only to sound like an enormous empire, but also because there are many people that help me to complete a lot of the projects I work on - such as printers, sign specialists, photographers, and other businesses that help me carry-out the project to its fullest. I couldn't do it without them. I have created strong relationships with these people, which means I can trust their judgement, and know they will work with me to create the best looking brochure, sign, business cards, presentation folders - whatever it may be.

Just to name a few people that complete Windmiller Design GROUP:
Jim Bianco with SignPro  www.signprowg.com
Seth Hannula with Seth Benn Photography   website coming soon
Tom Morgan printer rep with Maximum Graphics  www.MaxGraphics.com
They are all stellar people to work with, I am grateful to have them in the group!
